“I’m incredibly proud to work side-by-side with organizations committed to the advancement of others. “There is no surer path out of poverty than education,” said Dehn. I feel grateful for the generous support of those who supported me, and in 2017, I started working full time on a company to return the favor,”ĭehn believes his platform is enabling sponsors to reach students who need that help the most in the most efficient way possible. He later earned his MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.ĭehn knows his story is not unique, explaining his motivation to start Kaleidoscope this way: ”Through no fault of their own, many families and kids find themselves in similar situations. So he ended up applying for over 100 scholarship programs and was able to cobble together several that allowed him to attend and graduate from Colorado College in 1998 with less than $10,000 in student loans. As a result of his father being diagnosed with ALS, Dehn’s family couldn’t afford to pay for college. He traces his idea for the startup to his own personal experiences of struggling to afford college. Kaleidoscope is the brainchild of founder and CEO Greg Dehn, who launched the company in 2017. Our foundation focuses on individuals who are not only pursuing higher education, but also giving back to their local communities.” As Jennifer Bradbury, Executive Director of the Taco Bell Foundation, explains, “Kaleidoscope enables us to uncover applicants who truly embody the Live Más spirit - our mantra. Most of the funding is in the form of student scholarships, but about 15% of its business involves various kinds of educational grant awards.īeyond managing scholarships, the platform can also help forge lasting relationships between sponsoring organizations and their scholarship recipients. To date, Kaleidoscope’s sponsors have disbursed over $150 million in awards through the platform. It’s one more tool the company claims will help mobilize private wealth to combat unequal access to higher education and also reduce student loan debt. It allows any organization or individual to design and set up a scholarship or grant program in just minutes, providing more affordable access to education for millions of potential applicants. The company wants to expand its applicant pool and “grow our twenty-five-year-old program, through which we’ve already awarded $500,000 in scholarships,” said Megan Wolle, Community Relations and Foundation Manager for Land O’Lakes.Įarlier this year, Kaleidoscope launched a new product called Award Builder. For example, the new Land O’Lakes’ “WinField Careers in Agriculture Scholarship” is targeting students who want to pursue careers in agriculture. Likewise, Kaleidoscope enables students to search for scholarships that match their unique interests both in terms of college location and field of study.
